  I want to aware you that in DM HVAC you must set your drawings in inches, and all the data must be English Units (that is: BTU/hr, sq. feet, etc.)

  DM HVAC has no starting icon, because it is an Autocad add-on application. You must install it over autocad 2004 and/or later version. Once you are in ACAD environment, you must open a top view drawing of your building, and begin to set the room, the wall isolation values, an so on using the icons on the DM HVAC tool bars. I usually closed the tool bars and prefer to use the DM HVAC MENU next to the HELP MENU in the upper side of my ACAD window.  Sorry If I am not able to explain myself better in English, as Spanish is my native language.   I used Solidworks a very short amount of time and on my own (meaning I did not worked in a company that used it), so I can't say I am too familiar with it.

  As far as the second question, I guess none of the software is "necesarry" to be an engineer. They are just awesome tools for engineers because it saves a tremendous amount of time and can do part of your work. Any software is useful, depends what's your industry and how you are using it.

  I can't even say I am an expert in ProE and I think that nothing will ever suffice for me as far as it concernes engineering. Maybe I am too eager to learn too many things in a so short life....

  Being an expert is such a big word and there is for sure somebody out there that can prove you wrong (meaning that it can be proved that the expert is not an expert) you know what I mean?

  by the way, in the case of Cuba we only are concerned with cooling, heating is not a necessary issue because it's a tropical island

  That will also have something to do with licenses. It is very tricky to install ProE on another computer with the same license. It remembers mac address and stuff like that. Try that, maybe you'll trick it. Good luck!
