Numerous forces in the Southeast, including Environmental Protection Agency standards, are changing the types of generation used by electric utilities to meet current and future needs. Natural gas from shale formations and developments in nuclear power generation are changing the relative economics of cleaner fuel sources. Although only one southeastern state has adopted renewable energy standards, there is increasing interest among state commissions and the public to encourage renewable energy sources. Several multi-state transmission projects are being contemplated to bring in renewable resources from outside the region. Energy efficiency and demand-side management are receiving increasing attention as well. At this conference, experts from throughout the Southeast will discuss these trends and what it's likely to mean for utilities, regulators, developers, and customers in the region.
