"I'm afraid I'm not that closely involved in the field to predict the future of image processing. I think generally the more interesting and difficult issues will need specialized hardware (graphics controllers) for some time, if only to reduce the…"

"Hi A.
To understand image compression techniques, start with the JPEG standard which is freely available and go on from there. There was an effort & book called JPEG 2000 which never seemed to go anywhere but which I believe was pushing for 3D…"

  • hello,
    This is Bhakti Thakar,

I graduated with my masters in electrical engineering with major as control systems in Dec2008. I worked in the industry for 6+ years before joining my masters.
I am looking for a job in control system design, model based design, modeling/simulation of industrial systems, control algorithm development.

I would request you to join my network on Engineering Exchange and Linkedin to help me expand my professional network which would help for my job search.

Thank you for your time and help.
    Bhakti Thakar
  • Thanks a lot sir.
  • Thank you for your reply. However, just for clarification, I have some knowledge about data compression techniques and have done image compression projects at school but I am curious if I spend time and money on learning digital image processing until mastering on the subject then will I have lots of job opportunities in the future? how this field is growing? how are salary ranges? I don't want to learn DSP with FPGA....no hardware design...just software side of story.... then combine it with my knowledge in communication engineering. However, I would like to hear the recommendations/advices of professionals already involved in this field. Whether I need to be very good in programming languages to success in DSP or should be very good in applied math to success in DSP or .....? I have good background in signals & systems....but not a good programming skills! So, let me know what skills are really needed to become an expert in DSP and particularly in image processing.

    Thanks a lot,

    AA
  • Hi Steve - thanks for feedback and comment- I'm going to create a group creation form- think this might help the process.

    Thanks

  • Hello Mr. Steve,

I was wondering, if you have any experiences in digital Image processing, as far as software approach not the hardware design. Well, I have learned some about DSP and data compression techniques but would like to master in this subject and find a job in that area either in biomedical or aerospace industry.

Your recommendations/suggestions in this matter will highly be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    AA
